Launched at the recent Frankfurt Book Fair, La Septima M centres on a mysterious series of suicides amongst young people in the fictional community of Puerto Fake.
“All the things I know about literature, about writing, I learned in the fan fiction world,” Solar told BBC World Service’s The Word programme.
“I owe it everything.”
Online smash
Solar began her writing career when she found she was so disappointed with JK Rowling’s fifth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, that she wanted to write her own sequel to it.
The Decline of the High Elves became a massive online smash, generating 80,000 views and positive reviews from Harry Potter fans around the world.
“When I read the fifth book, I was so disappointed – I’m a very critical reader, and I’m a huge fan, so the expectation of this fifth book was great,” Solar said.
“I took the principal characters and I did a story that is more rich than Rowling’s story, because you can have access to the thoughts and feelings of all of the characters.
“In the Harry Potter saga, you can only have access to Harry’s feelings and thoughts. That is a partial view of the Potter universe.”
She admitted she had never expected the global response to her work.
“Many people from all around the world have written to me, from the US, from the UK, from Asia,” she said.
“All these people wrote to me about the fanfic and said they liked it more than the official sixth book [Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince].”
However, the editors at Random House insisted they did not want “another JK Rowling” and wanted something fresh – hence La Septima M, which will itself be followed up by two further books to complete a trilogy.
Fan fictions – fanfics – are one of the staples of internet sites dedicated to popular books, films and TV shows. Depending on the type and writer, some generate a substatial number of readers, while others will attract only a handful of browsers.

Sí, lo cierto es que despuiés de ese artículo todo ha sido una locura. Hasta me botaron la página donde estaba el fanfic. Ayer di una entrevista para la India, y hoy recibí una oferta para traducir La Séptima M al serbio (sí, de Serbia, el país). Lo pueden creer? Insólito, pero muy divertido y halagador.
Eso sí. La pega, el cansancio, la presión y los malos ratos no se los doy a nadie.

y sí, concedo en que ese idioma es muy insólito. En todo todo caso, para ellos la literatura española y latinoamericana también es un producto sumamente extraño. En género fantástico y CF ellos sólo consumen literatura de sabor ruso y la anglosajona.
Ser traducido a tal idioma debe ser como colonizar otro mundo. Felicidades :)

jajjaja no pues. Los british colapsaron el ancho de banda después de la nota de BBC. Ahora ya está el sitio de vuelta pero no la pag de mi fanfic. Hay un link directo a fanfiction.net, para que desabarroten el cuento.
Me estoy llenando de ofertas y propuestas y cosillas interesantes. A medida que vayan resultando (jamás me jacto de algo que no es 200% seguro) les cuento. Y Rodrigo, si averiguas algo con tus espías, me cuentas, porque yo tampoco sé nada XD

Uh…
En ese caso recomiéndale a Carla “Fox” que se cambie de hosting. Si ponen trabas en el ancho de banda es que se trata de máquinas pirujas, quizá un simple PC tarro con IP fija enchufado en la casa de alguien.
Desde hace años que le confío todos los sitios que hago a unos longis de Temuco, pero últimamente se han portado un poco como el fongus.
Bien pensado lo del link a fanfiction.net, aunque me gustaba más el diseño que habían hecho en fanfics.cl

Wow. Increíble Francisca. Toda una hazaña. Nunca me gustó Potter, nunca pasé de alguna páginas, me quedé dormido en la primera película, pero cuando a mi hija le empezó a gustar y a saberse de memoria todo de todo acerca de la película, empecé a tratar de descubir qué era lo que hacía a Potter tan atrayente para los niños… Algo hay con la identificación con arquetipos emergentes… Esta pegado en el pasado, Wow. Al serbio. Increíble. Felicitaciones.
